Soufriere town

The town of Soufriere is home to many of St. Lucia's main tourist attractions, located on the west coast of the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. This is approximately thirty-three miles by road from Castries the capital in the North-west. The town has acquired a world-renowned reputation for the number of picturesque features that can be found within its boundaries.  The beauty of Soufriere’s many natural land formations and exotic scenery has been the back-drop for a number of motion pictures which were shot in Saint Lucia. Some of these include Doctor Doolittle, Creature and Fire Power.

An amazing site to on the island, the Diamond Botanical Gardens, a major tourist attraction, home of the Diamond Waterfall and the oldest botanical gardens on the island of St. Lucia.

 

The botanical garden is located in the town of Soufrière, in the Southwestern region of the island St. Lucia.

The Sulphur Springs is the "world's only drive-in volcano";  located near Soufrière  The water located at the centre of the springs boils at roughly 340 Fahrenheit (170 Celsius) creating large plumes of steam.

The water coming out of the spring is blackened by a chemical reaction between the high content of sulfur and iron. The spring water also contains large deposits of copper, iron oxide, alkaline lead, calcium oxide, and carbon. The Sulphur Springs is a main tourist attraction, where visitors enjoy sulphur baths.

The Pitons,  two mountainous volcanic plugs, located in Soufriere, Saint Lucia. Gros Piton is 771 m (2,530 ft) high, and Petit Piton is 743 m (2,438 ft) high; they are linked by the Piton Mitan ridge.

 

The Pitons are a World Heritage Site, 2,909 ha (7,190 acres) in size.

Tourists hike along the lush green vegetation to enjoy the serene ambience at the top of Gros Piton. The hike is a moderate to strenuous and lasts about 4 hours.
